Marble Look: Which Decor Is Right for You?
Marble is timeless. But marble is not just marble. Between a creamy onyx beige, a dramatic Calacatta Gold and a cool Statuario lie entire worlds of atmosphere, spatial effect and character. This guide helps you find the right decor for your room and your style.
Four characters. One decision.
Lay our marble-look panels side by side and the differences become clear immediately: it is not just colour that separates them. Vein structure, contrast, the warmth or coolness of the base tone, the width of the veins — all of these shape how a room feels once the panels are up. Four decors, four characters.
Onyx Beige — The Romantic
Creamy base tone, gentle veining, minimal contrast. Onyx-style decors feel as warm as candlelight — they bring intimacy to a room without dominating it. If you want to turn your bathroom into a small spa retreat, this is your character.
Pairs with: Brass fixtures, natural wood, warm textiles like linen or cotton terry. Works well with matte black hardware if you want a more contemporary edge.
Best rooms: Bathroom, dressing room, bedroom alcove. Wherever warmth and intimacy are the priority.
Calacatta Gold — The Dramatist
White base, bold veins with gold and amber highlights. This character is the choice for anyone who wants to make a statement. A single wall in Calacatta Gold is enough to define an entire room — no further decoration needed.
Pairs with: Gold accents, dark wood (walnut, smoked oak), velvet upholstery. Works best as a solo statement — do not mix with other strong patterns.
Best rooms: Living room feature wall, kitchen splashback, reception area. Even a single strip of panelling is enough.
Statuario — The Editor
Cool white, medium-strength grey veins, clear structure. Statuario is the decor of architecture magazines — precise, calm, considered. It is not a background; it is a choice for minimalism at its highest expression.
Pairs with: Concrete, steel, matte black, natural grey stone. Looks best in large expanses with generous space between furniture and wall. Scandinavian minimalist interiors are its natural habitat.
Best rooms: Open-plan kitchen, shower wall, home office. Wherever clarity is the priority.
Carrara Grey — The Classic
Light white base with bold grey veins, strong contrast. Carrara is the reference decor — everyone knows it, everyone understands it. It makes no mistakes and is therefore the right choice when you want maximum versatility or have multiple interior styles under one roof.
Pairs with: Literally everything. White wood, dark wood, colour, metal. Carrara is the neutral starting point of the marble universe.
Best rooms: Bathroom, kitchen, living room — universal. Particularly effective alongside plain floor tiles that have no strong character of their own.
Three questions to make the decision easier
- Warm or cool? If you spend most evenings in the room under warm LED or candlelight, choose a warm base tone (Onyx Beige, Calacatta Gold). Bright daylit rooms handle Statuario and Carrara better.
- Statement or backdrop? Should the panel be the main character or form a quiet stage for other elements? Statement: Calacatta Gold. Backdrop: Statuario or Carrara. Romantic middle ground: Onyx Beige.
- What colours are already in the room? Gold and brass? Calacatta Gold or Onyx Beige. Chrome and black? Statuario. Mixed or neutral? Carrara.
Room size and decor choice
High-contrast marble (Carrara, Calacatta Gold) can make small rooms feel smaller when used wall-to-wall. In bathrooms under 5 m² we recommend either using just one wall as an accent, or choosing a quieter decor such as Onyx Beige or Statuario for full coverage.
Rooms from about 12 m² can carry the contrast well — that is where Calacatta Gold really comes into its own.
Order samples: the most important step
No screen accurately conveys the texture and light behaviour of a material. We strongly recommend ordering samples before deciding, and holding them against the target wall throughout a full day — morning sun, evening light, artificial light, overcast sky.
At NordPaneele you can order up to three samples for free — free shipping, no minimum order. Take your time. A panel stays on the wall for many years.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine different marble-look decors?
Yes, with care. Two decors work together when they come from the same temperature family (both warm or both cool). Carrara + Calacatta Gold overwhelms the room visually — both compete for attention. Carrara + Onyx Beige, on the other hand, works well when one decor clearly takes up more surface area than the other.
How much maintenance do marble-look panels need?
Far less than real marble. SPC panels are not porous — no sealing, no re-impregnation. A damp cloth or a mild pH-neutral cleaner is all that is needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners and high-pressure washers.
How do I tell whether a marble decor matches my existing tiles?
Hold a sample directly next to your existing tiles (floor or adjacent wall). If the colour temperature and contrast align, the transition will feel harmonious. When tiles and panel come from different temperature worlds, the junction looks unsettled.
