Why wall panels instead of a traditional backsplash?
The typical German kitchen backsplash is either tiled (labour-intensive, expensive, dusty installation), glass (expensive, hard to replace, visible bracket holes), or laminate boards (cheap, but visually ordinary). SPC panels beat all three in practice: cheaper than tiles, easier to swap than glass, and visually far more premium than laminate.
Particularly relevant for rental kitchens: on move-out you can remove the panels cleanly and take them with you — or leave them for the next tenant as added value.
Which look works best in the kitchen?
Glossy marble: the classic luxury look. Reflects light, brightens the kitchen, feels more upmarket than kitchen tiles. Downside: fingerprints and splashes show up more on gloss.
Matte stone look: more understated, better for daily use. Our recommendation for busy family kitchens. Fingerprints are barely visible.
Concrete Chiaro or Naturale: suits modern kitchens with grey or white fronts. An industrial-but-warm look without any coldness.
We only recommend dark tones (Anthracite, dark slate) if you have plenty of daylight or strong task lighting — dark backsplashes otherwise swallow light.
Clearance to hob and sockets
SPC is heat-resistant up to 80 °C — enough for anything beyond direct flame exposure. For gas hobs we recommend a 30 cm minimum clearance or a glass protective strip directly behind the burner. For induction or ceramic hobs this is not an issue.
Sockets and switches: panels can be cut to a precise fit — we recommend marking the openings with a template and cutting with a jigsaw. Details in our installation guide.
